Our Golden Rule

It’s hopefully no secret that we hand-pick and truly love every item we bring into the shop.

We have our own Golden Rule for bringing in goods:

  1. Don’t bring it in unless it’s useful and won’t collect dust on a shelf.

NO ONE needs more meaningless stuff! Can I get an AMEN?! Consumables (useable, enjoyable, helpful) make wonderful gifts because they’ll get USED and enjoyed. And classic, useful items will stand the test of time and hopefully be handed down to next generations.

  2. Pay attention to quality!

Find out where products are made and the story behind the brand.

  3. Do a ‘background check’ on the company.

Make sure the brand is ethical, with ethical practices and a mission to give back in some way. And make sure they provide fair wages for their employees. Believe me, you’d be surprised at how often this ISN’T happening.

  4. And the final question…is it something we would want to give someone or receive ourselves?

It’s that simple. If we don’t feel good about something, how can we expect YOU to feel good about it?

The world is full of junk, I’m just going to say it. I’m opening a new shop in NewBo and I see Mt. Trashmore every day that I’m down there (for those of you who are not local, it’s a huge landfill). It’s a daily reminder to me that we need to be more intentional and careful about what we purchase.

When I started buying for the shop, I couldn’t believe the amount off junk available out there. I recommend that you also do your own research. Elevate your gift giving and self-giving game. Be the good. Recycle, repurpose.

Like my grandmother always said…”you get what you pay for.” #truth

We are so glad that you share our passion and dedication to supporting brands that support our planet and it’s inhabitants. And one more way we do that (something that’s always been a part of our mission) is by supporting local and Midwest brands too!
